Jasmine "Sonata" -- EL156 Single-Ended Tube Amplifier
In tube amplifier family, single-ended amplifier owns the best timbre
and also embodies the tube charm perfectly. However its small power output
is just like the fly in the ointment. For example, 300B item is of only
6~8W output. It's insufficient to drive modern high-fidelity loudspeakers
that use up more electrical current than traditional loudspeakers. Of
course, there are powerful tubes, such as 845 that can output 20W for
single-ended power. No problem to meet the requirements of listening.
But 845 (211,805,813) tubes are high voltage tubes, whose working voltage
is at least 1200V and even higher. Moreover we could not ignore the high
cost, huge volume and also the security. Therefore it¡¯s not the ideal
selection for family usage.
As to the characteristics of EL156, 25W power for single-ended output,
low working voltage and volume approximating to KT88, doubtlessly, it's
one of the best choices for single-ended tube amplifier
